I love my oats and just tryin to find some other ways to make em...any ideas??
I like to put together 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup egg whites, a little bit more water to cover completely, then mix. Put in the microwave for 2-3 minutes. Add berries, flax seed, splenda, whatever you feel like. I think it is yummy and it is quite filling.
I have heard so much about oatmeal and egg whites together but have yet to try them because I can't quite get the concept
so you don't cook them seperately?
but put the egg whites in with the raw oatmal, then add water and cook them like normal? (I use the microwave)
what does this do to the oatmeal? Make it more fluffy? thicker?
I'm anxious to try this but have a hard time visualizing this
I do this, but I add baking powder and cinnamon to it. It comes out like a huge muffin
Nope, you just put the oats (I have only tried rolled oats this way so far), pour 1/2 cup egg whites, then fill water until the oats are completely covered. It becomes fluffy like bdd says. I eat it with a fork and put flax and brown sugar twin on it. BLueberries for a treat. Does that help?
How do you prepare the egg white and oat mix??
I wish I had a microwaveable muffin tray...I could have "fuffins" (fauz muffins) every morning!
any other ideas??
I just make mine savory with different spices:
oregano and immitation butter and garlic (like garlic bread!)
with cottage cheese or casein pudding so its like a cake (use the cheese/casein as a toping)
mix with tuna/salmon and egg white to make a fish patty
1/2 cup oats
1/4 cup cottage cheese
1 cup egg whites
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
Blend well, then cook like a regular pancake. My fave!!!
yes--I'm gonna try that this sat--too afraid to try at work--then if I don't like I'm stuck with it for breakie--will definitely try this sat morning though
sounds like it would be super filling
now I do put flaxmeal and cinnamon-then once cooked add cropped up granny smith apple and strawberries or raspberries to it
like a giant applie crisp kinda (but mushier)
but I will try the egg whites--looking for a new version-so this may be it
The consistancy sounds interesting
This is my favourite too, it's awesome! Sometimes if I want a different texture I just mix it without a fork (and without the cottage cheese) but the above version is definitely fluffier, almost like a real pancake. I usually top it with berries or a tbsp of sf syrup.
Does it taste eggy at all?
:yeahthat: I've been wanting to try this too, but I don't want to
I use 1/2 cup of oats and only 2 egg whites, so no, it isn't eggy. For extra moisture I add water and cc, or if cals don't permit cc, just water.
I hate the taste of eggs. I'll try it tomorrow and let you know :uhuh:
1cup oats heated with water and cinnamon and splenda.
Then add 1/3c cottage cheese. Heat until all melted in
Sometimes I add vanilla extract or different SF syrups to it
I used to eat it a lot with banana, cinnamon and splenda (heat the banana chunks first in the microwave mmm)
Try cocoa powder with splenda -- tastes like a chocolate chip cookie!
K-you go first and let me know--I still can't grasp the concept of oatmeal and egg whites
I'll wait for your review
PS-you have the most beautiful legs I've ever seen!!!
I eat a protein pancake just about every day for breakfast. I use 1/2 c oats, 1/4 c cc, and 4 eggwhites. Sometimes I put apple, banana, or pear slices in the pan before pouring in the batter.
Today I put in a little bit of blackstrap molasses, fresh grated ginger, a packet of splenda, vanilla extract, and cinnamon and it came out like gingerbread.
You can also add 1/2 tsp baking powder and a chunk of banana and bake it into muffins.
Oatmeal with cottage cheese is another fave: In a big bowl barely cover 1/2 c oats with water, nuke 45 seconds. Add 1/2 c cottage cheese, nuke 1 min. Stir well, add cinnamon and maple extract, nuke 1 more min. Stir until cottage cheese is completely melted. Stir in 1/2 T almond butter and EAT.
these ideas are all sounding great...
