    Ballantyne's opinion:

    1) Brush your teeth after every meal.

    2) Keep the binge food as far away, and as inconviently located as
possible. If you have a kids, and keep some treats for them in the
house, put them somewhere that you have to work to get them.
    Ie. The top shelf.

    3) Go for a quick walk or mini-workout of bodyweight exercises rather
    than a binge.

    4) Eat fruit, not junk, when you just can't stop eating.

    5) Try to avoid the environments where binges happen.

I think you can use some of these just to keep you from snacking as well (not just binging) I always put my choc chips (yes gay I know) in a ziplock bag. Again, goes to the whole--have to work to get them out.

The only thing I will really "binge" on is bread. (Fresh french, italian, wheat, anything). Weird I know. So I just don't keep it in the house.

I don't know what I'm going to do when I have kids, but for now, I just keep everything out of the house. If i get a planned cheat or refeed, it's something that i have to go the grocery store for. And jeff is only allowed to have yucky snacks in the house. i.e pretzels.

I don't think CB has ever had a BED....

    it's not that simple.

His opinion on how to stop binge eating looks like it would help people who simply 'cheat' on their diets... not truly binge.

Although, #5 I guess I do agree with.

Yes it is a good point. I'm not a binger. When I read the original post, I know that #1 helps me from cheating on my diet.

    I agree with Patricia.

I think an important -- perhaps THE most important -- one to add in here should be changing your mindset toward food. Fix the root of the problem instead of constantly avoiding it and hoping it doesn't slam you in the face again. If I stash a trigger-food away, I'll get my hands on it somehow. I had to start seeing food in a different light before anything got better.

(I've been binge-free for almost two months now, methinks :hamster:)

i wanted to post something similar yesterday but decided to leave it alone--but i agree with Patricia. Those tips are very helpful to prevent overeating, but won't do anything against an emotional binge. Unfortunately, when you're using food to cope with uncomfortable feelings it doesn't matter if your teeth are clean or if you have to go out of your way to get what you're looking for. :(

Exactly. If I am on a mission I will DRIVE to the store and buy loads of junk.
    Case in point....
about 2 months ago I was dieting on my own....
Woke up middle of the night starving....
ended up, at 3 AM, driving to nearest grocery store and buying 2 frozen pizzas (the smaller CPK kind) and a box of cookies.... at 3am.
